西園寺家の起源、👦

origin

西園寺家は平安時代後期の公家である藤原通季を祖とし、その名は4代目の藤原公経が北山に建てた西園寺に由来しています。鎌倉時代には幕府と親密な関係を築り、隆盛を極めましたが、幕府の滅亡とともに没落しました。

The Saionji family is descended from Fujiwara Michiki, a royal family of the late Heian period, and its name is derived from the Saionji temple built in Kitayama by the fourth generation Fujiwara Kimitsune. During the Kamakura period, it established a close relationship with the shogunate and flourished, but it fell with the fall of the shogunate.

立命館の創設、👦

Founding of Ritsumeikan

明治2年（1869年）、西園寺邸内で公望（きんもち）が私塾「立命館」を創設しました。この私塾には江馬天江をはじめとする賓師（先生）と100人以上の塾生が集まりました。しかし、翌年に閉鎖命令を受け、閉校となりました。

In the 2nd year of Meiji (1869), Kinmochi founded a private school “Ritsumeikan” in the Saionji residence. This private school was attended by more than 100 students and other guest teachers including Ema Tenjiang. However, the following year, the school was ordered to close and closed.

現在は公園として整備されており、一年中草花が楽しめる場所となっています。京都御苑内には平安時代から幕末に至る屋敷跡が点在しており、説明書きの駒札が立てられているので、歴史を巡る散策が楽しいことでしょう。

It is now maintained as a park, and it is a place where you can enjoy flowers all year round. The ruins of mansions from the Heian period to the end of the Edo period are scattered throughout Kyoto Gyoen, and there are explanatory plaques, so it will be fun to take a walk through history.

記帳前が騒がしい。なぜか空に向かって写真を撮っている人ばかり。見上げると太陽の周りに虹が出来ていた。これは虹ではなく「八口」というもので、結構、見れるらしい。

There is a lot of noise in front of the bookkeeping. For some reason, all of them are taking pictures towards the sky. When I looked up, I saw a rainbow around the sun. This is not a rainbow, but a “hachiguchi”, and it seems that you can see it quite a bit.

京都御所を取り囲む、よく整備された広い公園です。苑内には旧公家屋敷の跡や庭園などの歴史的価値のある見所がいろいろとあります。砂利が敷き詰められており緑も多く、この中をゆっくりと散歩すると心が落ち着いてきます。

It is a large and well-maintained park that surrounds Kyoto Gosho. There are various historical attractions such as the ruins of former official residences and gardens in the garden. It is paved with gravel and has a lot of greenery, and if you take a leisurely walk in it, you will feel calm.

いつ来ても必ず何らかの花が咲いていて癒されます。春は梅と桜が美しいし、秋は紅葉。無料で散歩が楽しめるのは有り難い。いつの季節もお勧めです。真っ直ぐと砂利道が延延と続きます。ヒール靴だと汚れますし、歩き切るには辛いかと。

No matter when you come, there is always some kind of flower blooming and you will be healed. Plum blossoms and cherry blossoms are beautiful in spring, and autumn leaves are falling. I’m grateful that I can enjoy a walk for free. It is recommended in any season. A straight and gravel road continues to extend. If you wear heeled shoes, it will get dirty, and it will be hard to walk through.
