瑞龍山という山号を持ち、釈迦如来を本尊としています。

Attractions

南禅寺は、江戸時代の代表的な枯山水庭園である方丈庭園で有名です。この庭園は著名な庭師小堀遠州によって設計され、通称「虎の子渡し」と呼ばれています。

Nanzenji Temple is famous for its Hojo Garden, a typical dry landscape garden from the Edo period. This garden was designed by the famous gardener Enshu Kobori and is commonly known as “Tiger Cub Passing”.

また、南禅寺は歌舞伎の演目で知られる石川五右衛門の伝説や、三門などの堂宇建築でも多くの観光客を魅了しています。

Nanzenji Temple attracts many tourists with the legend of Ishikawa Goemon, who is known for his kabuki performances, and the temple architecture such as the Sanmon.

琵琶湖疎水沿いにある南禅寺へ行きました。南禅寺の三門（画像）は、歌舞伎演目の中に登場するほど立派なものでした。ここから境内へ入りました。南禅寺は方丈庭園と水路閣を目当てに行きました。方丈と方丈庭園はおとな一人600円でした。

I went to Nanzenji Temple along the Lake Biwa Canal. The Sanmon (pictured) of Nanzenji Temple was so magnificent that it appeared in a kabuki performance. From here, I entered the precincts. I went to Nanzenji Temple to see the Hojo Garden and the Suiji Pavilion. Hojo and Hojo Garden were 600 yen per adult.

境内に入ると、南禅寺を代表する巨大な三門がすぐ目に入りましたが、見たかったのはこれではありません。でも、この三門の立派さにも驚かされました。さて、どうしても見たいものですが、それが南禅寺の「水路閣」です。ここはあんまり京都っぽくないかもしれませんが、神秘的な雰囲気がバッチリでしたねえ。まるでローマです。ローマには、行ったことありませんけど。

When I entered the temple grounds, I immediately saw the huge three gates that represent Nanzenji Temple, but this is not what I wanted to see. But I was also surprised by the magnificence of these Mikado. Well, what I really want to see is the “Suiji Pavilion” of Nanzenji. This place may not be very Kyoto-like, but the mysterious atmosphere was perfect. It’s like Rome. I’ve never been to Rome, though.

どっしりとした豪壮な寺院建築と色鮮やかな紅葉のハーモニーが見事な南禅寺さん。紅葉の季節には必ず行きたくなります。山門や水路閣に切り取られた景色はまるでアートのようです。

Nanzenji Temple is a splendid harmony of majestic temple architecture and colorful autumn leaves. You will definitely want to go there during the autumn foliage season. The scenery cut out by the mountain gate and the waterway pavilion is like art.

かなりの水量が流れており、ザァーザァーと、凄い音をたてていました。あたりはマイナスイオンが充分に発生していると思います。あたりはひんやりとしており、季節によっては、納涼スポットだと思います。山門が荘厳でした。参拝は、コロナ対応で随時変更されるので、リアルタイムで状況を把握してから、訪れた方が良いかと思います。

There was a considerable amount of water flowing, and it was making a great sound. I think there are enough negative ions in the area. The area is cool, and depending on the season, I think it is a cool spot. The mountain gate was majestic. Worship is changed from time to time due to corona response, so I think it is better to grasp the situation in real time before visiting.
