まず、「JOYふなまち」という名前の由来ですが、これは「船町宝船会商店街振興組合」の略称です。宝船会とは、江戸時代から続く船町の商人たちが結成した組織で、現在も地域の活性化や交流を目指して活動しています。宝船とは七福神が乗っている幸運を呼ぶ船のことで、「福山城址公園」にも宝船像があります。
