京都市右京区花園にある臨済宗大本山妙心寺の塔頭（たっちゅう）寺院です。

1590年に豊臣三中老の一人である堀尾吉晴が、長男の金助の菩提を弔うために創建されました。
It was founded in 1590 by Horio Yoshiharu, one of the three elders of Toyotomi, to mourn the death of his eldest son, Kinsuke.

当初は「俊巌院」（しゅんげんいん）と呼ばれていましたが、堀尾家断絶後、姻戚関係の石川家がこの寺を引き継いだ際に「春光院」（しゅんこういん）と改名されました。
At first, it was called “Shungen-in”, but after the Horio family was severed, it was renamed “Shunko-in” when the Ishikawa family, who were related by marriage, took over the temple.

近代日本を代表する禅哲学者である京都学派の久松真一は、春光院で鈴木大拙（すずき だいせつ）と禅について語り合ったことでも有名です。この寺は、禅や日本文化を体験する場としても訪れることができます。
Shinichi Hisamatsu of the Kyoto School, one of the leading Zen philosophers of modern Japan, is also famous for discussing Zen with Suzuki Daisetsu at Shunko-in. The temple can also be visited as a place to experience Zen and Japan culture.

Hands-on experience program
坐禅（座禅）体験: 静寂の中で坐禅を行い、自己と向き合うことができます。
茶道体験: 朝日焼や開化堂などの工芸作家のお道具を使って冷茶を入れ、瞑想を行います。
書道体験: 書道を通じて表現することで、自己を探求します。
また、特別な禅体験や夜間の体験もあります。春光院の方丈前庭（ほうじょう ぜんてい）は、伊勢神宮の内宮と外宮、伊勢湾を象徴する「さざれ石の庭」で、狩野永岳によって描かれた金襖絵（ふすまえ）も見ることができます。
There are also special Zen experiences and nighttime experiences. The Hojo front garden of Shunko-in is a “garden of ripple stones” that symbolizes the inner and outer shrines of Ise Jingu Shrine and Ise Bay, and you can also see the gold sliding door paintings (bran paintings) by Kano Nagatake.
