最寄りの地下鉄駅は蹴上駅ですが、南禅寺前交差点まで行くとかなり遠回りになります。「ねじりまんぽ」をくぐって金地院の前の道に抜けると10分かかりません。まず巨大な山門。拝観料を払えば登れますがまだまだ足腰を酷使する予定なのでパス。

南禅寺の一番奥の方丈で南禅寺の紹介ビデオを見た後、方丈、水路閣、南禅院、法堂の天井に描かれた龍、三門と巡りました。方丈の襖絵に描かれた虎と豹、庭園、テレビで良く見る水路閣、法堂の龍、三門に登って見た京都の風景、どれも良かったですが、南禅寺発祥の地と言う事で拝観料400円を払った南禅院は、ちょっと残念な気持ちになりました。

After watching an introductory video of Nanzenji Temple at the innermost part of Nanzenji, we visited Hojo, Suiji Pavilion, Nanzen-in, the dragon painted on the ceiling of the hall, and the Sanmon. The tiger and panther depicted in the fusuma paintings of Hojo, the garden, the Suido Pavilion that I often see on TV, the dragon in the temple hall, and the scenery of Kyoto that I saw when I climbed the Sanmon gate were all good, but I felt a little disappointed that Nanzen-in Temple, where I paid an admission fee of 400 yen because it is the birthplace of Nanzen-ji.

次に法堂でお参り。今回はさらに一番奥にある国宝指定の方丈を拝観しました。この方丈は７つの庭園が楽しめるとして有名ですが、見たかったのは方丈そのもの。大方丈と小方丈があるんですが、大方丈は桃山時代の京都御所の建物を移築したもので、当時の宮家建築物として貴重です。

There are two types of buildings, one of which is a large one and one of which is a relocation of the building of the Kyoto Imperial Palace in the Momoyama period, and is valuable as a palace building at that time.

まず方丈にしてはでかい。そして屋根は神社と同じこけら葺き。蔀戸も付いています。部屋にはそれぞれ狩野派の障壁画で飾られており、庭が好きな人、建築物が好きな人、美術が好きな人、みんなが楽しめる国宝になっています。入り口の中門まで戻らず、山門から北に向かうと隣接する永観堂に近いです。

First of all, it’s huge for a square length. And the roof is the same thatch as the shrine. It also has a shutter. Each room is decorated with barrier paintings of the Kano school, making it a national treasure that can be enjoyed by everyone, including those who like gardens, architecture, and art. If you don’t go back to the middle gate of the entrance, and head north from the mountain gate, it is close to the adjacent Eikando Hall.

京都らしい写真スポットの多い観光地です。まずは山門の壮大さに圧倒されます。また周りの木々がとても美しいです。広大なのでゆっくり見るのがおすすめです。周りの塔頭も見どころが多いです。最近はお土産屋さんもできてより賑わってます。

It is a tourist destination with many photo spots that are typical of Kyoto. First of all, you will be overwhelmed by the grandeur of the mountain gate. Also, the surrounding trees are very beautiful. It is vast, so it is recommended to take your time. There are many attractions in the surrounding towers. Recently, souvenir shops have been opened and it is more crowded.
