history

駒道智大僧正（こまどうちだいそうじょう）によって創建されました。駒道智大僧正は、摂政関白九条道家の子として生まれ、仏道修行の道に入り、天台密教の深奥を極めた人物とされています。

It was founded by Komadochidai Sojo. Born as the son of the regent Sekihaku Kujo Dōke, he entered the path of Buddhist practice and is said to have mastered the depths of Tendai esoteric Buddhism.

晩年にはこの地で過ごし、文永三年三月三日に秘密の法力により、白馬にまたがり生身を天空にかくされたと伝えられています。それ以来、滝を駒ヶ滝僧正を駒大僧正（こまどうちだいそうじょう）と呼び、また、院号をとって僧正をまつる寺を最勝院（さいしょういん）と呼ぶこととなりました。

It is said that he spent his last years in this place, and on March 3, the third year of Bunei, he was hidden in the sky astride a white horse by a secret law. Since then, the waterfall has been called Komado Chidai Sojo for Komagataki Monks, and the temple dedicated to the monks has been called Saishoin.

最寄り駅: 地下鉄東西線「蹴上」駅から徒歩11分
バス: 京都市バス5号、32号、93号、100号、203号、204号（出発場所により異なる）

拝観時間は不明ですが、通常は午前9時から午後4時ごろまで開いていると思われます。最勝院の周辺には他にも観光名所がたくさんありますので、ぜひ訪れてみてください。

最勝院は、紅葉や新緑が美しい名所でもあります。特に秋の紅葉シーズンには、南禅寺と比べて人が少なく、静かな雰囲気で楽しめます。本堂前には立派なもみじがあり、見ごたえ十分です。また、縁結びの松と紅葉のコラボも楽しめます。最勝院は、風情ある参道が好きな方や秘密の場所を探求したい方におすすめです。

Saishoin Temple is also a famous place with beautiful autumn leaves and fresh greenery. Especially during the autumn foliage season, there are fewer people than Nanzenji Temple, and you can enjoy it in a quiet atmosphere. There is a magnificent maple in front of the main hall, and it is worth seeing. You can also enjoy the collaboration between matchmaking pine and autumn leaves. Saishoin Temple is recommended for those who like the quaint approach and those who want to explore secret places.

南禅寺水路閣脇の小道を上がった所にある小ぶりな寺院さんです。わかりにくい場所にある為、混雑はしていませんが紅葉シーズンは注意かも？本堂というよりかは参道が綺麗な場所なので参道の雰囲気を楽しむのがベストです。

It is a small temple located at the top of the path beside the Nanzenji Waterway Pavilion. It’s not crowded because it’s in a place that’s hard to understand, but you might be careful during the autumn foliage season. It is best to enjoy the atmosphere of the approach because it is a beautiful place rather than the main hall.

南禅寺の塔頭（たっちょう）のひとつで境内背後の東山山峡は、神仙佳境（しんせんかきょう）と呼ばれるパワースポとです。南禅寺を拝観していた大勢の観光客は、ここまでは押し掛けてこないので静かに紅葉を楽しむことができました。紅葉の穴場スポットなので南禅寺に訪れたなら、必ず参拝して紅葉を鑑賞してください。

One of the temples of Nanzen-ji Temple, the Higashiyama Gorge behind the temple grounds is called Shinsenkakyo. The large number of tourists who were visiting Nanzenji Temple did not rush so far, so they were able to enjoy the autumn leaves quietly. 最勝院にある「縁結びの松」は百日紅（さるすべり）の木の股に種が落ちて成長した珍しいものだそうです。縁結びだけに女性の参詣が多いように見受けらました。レンガ造りの水路閣から琵琶湖疏水沿いの奥にあるお寺です。この辺りの雰囲気はかなり良いです。名前から勝負運の神様としても人気があります。南禅寺 最勝院（高徳院）は水路閣の北側にあります。

It is said that the “Matchmaking Pine” in Saishoin is a rare one that grew when a seed fell into the crotch of a slippery tree. It seemed that there were many women visiting the shrine only for matchmaking. It is a temple located in the back of the brick waterway pavilion along the Lake Biwa Canal. The atmosphere around here is quite good. From the name, it is also popular as the god of luck. Nanzen-ji Saisho-in (Kotoku-in) is located on the north side of Suijikaku.
