南禅院は、南禅寺の塔頭（たっちょう）の一つで、京都市左京区南禅寺福地町に位置しています。

Nanzen-in is one of the temples of Nanzen-ji and is located in Fukuchi-cho, Nanzenji, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto.

南禅寺は、赤レンガの水道橋で有名ですが、その奥にあるのが南禅院で、南禅寺の発祥地とされています。ここに離宮を造営した亀山上皇は、後に出家して法皇となりました。

Nanzenji Temple is famous for its red brick aqueduct, but behind it is Nanzen-in, which is considered to be the birthplace of Nanzenji. Emperor Kameyama, who built a palace here, later became the pope.

歴史、👦

history

南禅院の庭園は、鎌倉時代に作庭されたもので、日本初の作庭家とも言われる夢窓疎石（むそうこくし）によって完成されました。庭園は池泉回遊式（ちせんかいゆうしき）で、周囲を深い樹林で包まれています。

The garden of Nanzen-in was created during the Kamakura period and was completed by Muso Kokushi, who is said to be the first gardener in Japan. The garden is surrounded by a dense forest.

亀山法皇が作庭したとされ、京都の三名勝史跡庭園の一つに指定されています。庭園の東南隅には亀山法皇のご遺言により御分骨を埋葬した御廟もあります。

It is said to have been created by Pope Kameyama and is designated as one of the Three Scenic Historical Gardens in Kyoto. In the southeast corner of the garden, there is also a shrine where the bones of the deceased were buried in accordance with the will of His Holiness Kameyama.

南禅院方丈は、元禄16年（1703年）に徳川綱吉の母、桂昌院の寄進によって再建され、総桧の入母屋造こけら葺きです。内陣中央には亀山法皇御木造（重文）が安置され、襖絵は狩野養朴（かのうようぼく）とその子如川隋川（にょせんすいせん）の筆になる水墨画です。

The Nanzen-in Hojo was rebuilt in the 16th year of Genroku (1703) with the donation of Tokugawa Tsunayoshi’s mother, Katsura Shoin, and is a main house built with a kokera roof. In the center of the chancel, the wooden structure of His Holiness Kameyama is enshrined, and the fusuma painting is an ink painting that serves as a brush for me and my child.

どっしりとした豪壮な寺院建築と色鮮やかな紅葉のハーモニーが見事な南禅寺さん。紅葉の季節には必ず行きたくなります。山門や水路閣に切り取られた景色はまるでアートのよう。

Nanzenji Temple has a splendid harmony of majestic temple architecture and colorful autumn leaves. You will definitely want to go there during the autumn foliage season. The scenery cut out by the mountain gate and the waterway pavilion is like art.

レンガ造りのアーチに風情がありますSNS映えするという事で多くの方が写真を撮ってました。人が多いため朝早めにまわることをおすすめします。

The brick arch has a taste, and many people took pictures because it looks good on SNS. There are many people, so it is recommended to go around early in the morning.

かなりの水量が流れており、ザァーザァーと、凄い音をたてていました。あたりはマイナスイオンが充分に発生していると思います。あたりはひんやりとしており、季節によっては、納涼スポットだと思います。山門が荘厳でした。

There was a considerable amount of water flowing, and it was making a great sound. I think there are enough negative ions in the area. The area is cool, and depending on the season, I think it is a cool spot. The mountain gate was majestic.

南禅寺の敷地には水路閣と呼ばれる、レンガ積みの水路があり、琵琶湖疏水の水が通り、京都市内の上水道として今も使われているそうです。南禅寺の前には、インクライン（傾斜鉄道）の遺跡があり、レールも残っており、レールのそばを歩くことができます。

On the grounds of Nanzen-ji Temple, there is a brick waterway called Suidokaku, through which water from the Lake Biwa Canal passes, and it is said that it is still used as a water supply in Kyoto City. In front of Nanzen Temple, there are the remains of the incline (inclined railway), and the rails are still there, and you can walk by the rails.
