明智光秀は、有名な「本能寺の変」で織田信長を討った武将です。彼は2020年の大河ドラマ「麒麟がくる」の主人公としても注目されました。
Akechi Mitsuhide is a warlord who defeated Oda Nobunaga in the famous “Honnoji no Hen”. He was also noted as the main character of the 2020 taiga drama “Kirin ga Kuru”.
しかし、本能寺の変の後の明智光秀についてはあまり知られていないことが多いです。彼は「三日天下」で終わったことくらいしか知られていないかもしれません。

history
明智光秀の首は、家臣によって知恩院近くの山麓に埋められたと伝えられています。昔は「少しでも触れると祟りがある」と恐れられていた場所でした。
It is said that Akechi Mitsuhide’s head was buried at the foot of a mountain near Chion-in by his vassals. In the past, it was a place that was feared that “if you touch it even slightly, you will be enshrined.”
江戸時代後期には木が茂った塚として描かれていましたが、明治時代には現在の場所に移され、祟りの対象から信仰の対象へと変わっていったそうです。
In the late Edo period, it was depicted as a mound with trees, but in the Meiji period, it was moved to its current location, and it seems that it changed from an object of worship to an object of worship.

明智光秀の塚には以下の要素があります。
The mound of Akechi Mitsuhide has the following elements:
梅宮社: 小さな祠（ほこら）で、「光秀公」の額が掲げられています。中には光秀の木像や位牌（いはい）、白いお地蔵様が納められています。梅宮社はライトアップされており、中を覗くことができますが、木像は扉の奥に安置されているため、直接拝むことはできません。
五重石塔: 石でできた五重塔で、首塚とも呼ばれています。この石塔を拝むと、首より上の病に霊験（ご利益）があると言われています。墓石の隣には、明智光秀の家紋である「桔梗紋」（ききょうもん）が刻まれた水鉢が設置されています。
墓石と手水鉢: 墓石には光秀の戒名が刻まれており、隣には人形浄瑠璃の関係者が奉納した手水鉢が置かれています。
明智光秀の塚は、地元の方々に大切にされている場所であり、訪れる価値があります。また、餅寅で販売されている「光秀饅頭」もぜひ味わってみてください。

京都市営地下鉄東西線の東山駅から徒歩で10分くらいです。わたしは東山駅から青蓮院門跡に向かって歩いていて、「明智光秀の塚」の案内が有ったので、せっかくなのでお参りすることにしました。
It is about a 10-minute walk from Higashiyama Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tozai Line. I was walking from Higashiyama Station toward the ruins of the Seiren-in Temple, and there was a guide to the “Mound of Akechi Mitsuhide”, so I decided to visit it.
白川の綺麗な流れのすぐ近くです。駅を出てすぐのところから、途中いくつもの案内が出ているので、道に迷うことは無いと思います。青蓮院門跡や、近くには知恩院や平安神宮等が有りますので、是非足を延ばしてお参りすることをお勧めします。白川南通りも綺麗ですが、明智光秀の塚近くの白川も落ち着いて綺麗なところです。
It is very close to the beautiful flow of the Shirakawa River. There are a number of directions on the way from just outside the station, so I don’t think you will get lost. There are the ruins of the Seiren-in Gate, Chion-in Temple, and Heian Shrine nearby, so we recommend that you visit by all means. Shirakawa Minami Street is also beautiful, but Shirakawa near Akechi Mitsuhide’s mound is also a calm and beautiful place.
柳並木の風情ある白川沿いを三条通りから歩いていると「東梅宮 明智光秀墳」と刻まれた石標があります。和菓子屋さん「餅寅」横の細い路地を入っていった先です。周りはアパートに囲まれた場所に簡素な祠（ほこら）。歴史的に有名な光秀ですが、ここは観光客にもほとんど知られていないと思います。「餅寅」では、桔梗紋の入った「光秀饅頭」が売っていました。
If you walk along the Shirakawa River, which is lined with willow trees, from Sanjo Street, you will see a stone marker engraved with the inscription “Higashi Umegu Akechi Mitsuhide Tomb”. It is at the end of the narrow alley next to the Japanese confectionery shop “Mochi Tora”. It is surrounded by apartments and is a simple shrine. Mitsuhide is historically famous, but I think this place is hardly known even to tourists. At “Mochi Tora”, “Mitsuhide buns” with bellflower crests were sold.
